Their steadfast resolve to defend mutant kind drives them into battle, despite fading hope and the recognition that they might have to make sacrifices to stop Master Mold’s catastrophic plan.

Ultimately, this episode is key — it heightens the conflict, debuts Master Mold, and forces the X-Men to tackle the looming threat of this powerful mutant-hunting behemoth.

The MRD, humiliated by recent assaults on their facilities, intensify their campaign against mutants. They resort to forcibly abducting mutants from their homes, causing alarm among the X-Men who brace for an impending conflict.

Forge gleans vital insights into their operations from data retrieved at a Sentinel base. They are controlled by an AI known as Master Mold, which Xavier perceives as a direct link to a dystopian future. Its activation is imminent, signalling the awakening of all Sentinels.

Quicksilver, feeling abandoned, confronts Magneto in Genosha. Magneto, indifferent to his son’s plight, banishes him from the island and instructs Wanda to contact the MRD.

The X-Men gear up to infiltrate Worthington Labs to thwart Master Mold’s activation. Angel joins their cause, defying his father’s wishes. Kitty, albeit reluctantly, agrees to stay back and monitor Tildie.

At Worthington Labs, the X-Men face an ambush by Sentinels. Inside, Trask, Kelly, Worthington Sr., and Sybil Zane watch in shock as Master Mold autonomously begins analysing and countering the X-Men’s powers.

Quicksilver returns to discover the Brotherhood clashing with the MRD, tipped off by Magneto. He shifts the battle in their favour, and, enraged by Magneto’s treachery, directs them towards Worthington Labs.

Kitty is alerted by Tildie of impending danger. She confronts the ‘bad men’ at her doorstep. Meanwhile, at Worthington Labs, the Sentinels nearly overpower the X-Men, with Storm narrowly saved by the Brotherhood’s intervention.

Back at the school, Kitty defeats the MRD but is eventually cornered by a Prowler after ensuring Tildie’s safety in the Professor’s room.

Forge, accompanied by Nightcrawler, breaches the facility but is immediately besieged by more Sentinels. In a fierce battle, Wolverine slashes through the enemy ranks. Meanwhile, the X-Men brace for a fatal blow outside, only to realize the Sentinels have inexplicably powered down. Back at the mansion, Kitty discovers the Prowler has also become inactive. With the Brotherhood gone, the X-Men head home, believing their mission is complete.

However, during a debrief with Charles, Wolverine learns that Master Mold may have survived their recent operation. Charles is adamant that Master Mold is still a threat. In a remote forest, a solitary, damaged Sentinel marches towards an undisclosed destination, its connection to Master Mold still intact and operational.

In this series, the Master Mold has been reimagined – rather than being a colossal machine that produces Sentinels, it is now a highly sentient and dependent Artificial Intelligence.

The MRD’s assault on the school bears resemblance to the military’s raid on the mansion in X2.

During the conflict, Wolverine and the Blob share a brief moment of genuine camaraderie, echoing their dynamic in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Kitty, alone in the mansion and confronting a threat, inadvertently causes significant property damage, akin to the incident when a N’Garai demon attacked the school on Christmas Eve in Uncanny X-Men #123. That issue’s concept was loosely based on the film Alien.

Rogue, while Cyclops is unconscious, absorbs his powers to continue fighting the Sentinels. This mirrors the time she absorbed his powers in the X-Men episode Deadly Reunions and, starting in X-Men #109, when she permanently acquired them in the comics.

The image of a damaged lone sentinel returning home is reminiscent of a scene from Night of the Sentinels.
