X-Men: Evolution puts a spotlight on the fierce female members of the team! Walk on the Wild Side is all about empowerment, camaraderie, and the exhilarating thrill of taking a trip to the other side of things. The plot kicks off with Jean Grey taking charge of a training session with Magma, who’s feeling the pressure of stepping up. When Cyclops intervenes, it’s clear that the girls are ready to prove they don’t need rescuing. The tension between the male and female members sets the stage for a showdown of skills and wits.
As the story unfolds, the focus shifts to the dynamic between Jean, Amara (Magma), and new character, Tabitha Smith, also known as Boom-Boom. Tabitha’s rebellious spirit and penchant for causing trouble add an exciting twist to the narrative. She brings a fresh energy to the team, challenging the status quo and pushing the boundaries of what it means to be a hero. The episode delves into themes of independence and self-reliance, with the girls determined to carve out their own path and make their mark without the boys hovering over them.
The all-female team, dubbed the “Bayville Sirens,” sets out on a series of vigilante adventures that highlight their strengths and solidarity. They tackle crime in their own unique style, from stopping carjackers to taking down a ring of car thieves. Their exploits not only cut the crime rate in half but also bring them closer as a team. However, their newfound fame and success come with its own set of challenges. They must navigate the complexities of being heroes while keeping their true identities hidden. The episode wraps up with a rock montage, showing the girls balancing their crime-fighting activities with the fun and normalcy of teenage life. Walk on the Wild Side is a thrilling exploration of female empowerment, showcasing the resilience, resourcefulness, and indomitable spirit of the X-Men’s heroines.
Jean trains Magma, who feels unprepared. Cyclops reminds them that Amara shouldn’t be late for her first day of high school. During training, a boulder breaks loose. Jean catches it with telekinesis, but Scott intervenes, blasting it into debris. Jean, frustrated, explains she was teaching Amara to handle mistakes without needing a “big strong man” to save her.
At The Brotherhood house, Tabitha disrupts Todd’s shower, uses his mouthwash, and throws a bomb in the shower. She criticizes Blob’s mohawk and steals Lance’s jeep. At school, Kitty shows Amara to her class, where she meets Tabitha. Tabitha invites Amara to the mall after school. Jean sees them leaving and takes Scott’s car to follow.
On the way to the mall, Tabitha and Amara witness a carjacking and chase the criminals. Jean joins them, preventing harm to bystanders. Amara melts the tires, and Tabitha throws a bomb, causing the criminals to flee. Jean traps them with cinder blocks, and the girls celebrate before escaping the police.
The incident makes the news, but Jean and Amara keep it secret. A montage shows the girls shopping, dancing, and fighting crime, becoming known as the “Bayville Sirens.” Scott, suspicious, plans a “secret mission” with Kurt to address it.
At the Institute, Kurt and Scott spy on the girls sneaking out. Jean spots them, and Tabitha picks up the girls. The boys try to follow but lose them. They later witness a car theft and chase the thieves. The car owner calls the cops, mentioning the Sirens.
The girls track the stolen car to a warehouse and get caught spying on a car theft ring. The setup was meant to catch the Sirens. The girls fight the crooks, but Tabitha’s blasts start fires. Kurt and Scott find the girls and let them handle it. Kitty and Amara trap the ring leader in a car trunk, and Scott saves him from the flames.
The girls round up the crooks and extinguish the fires. A policewoman arrives, threatening arrest, but agrees to let them go if they stop their vigilante activities. They agree and leave. The policewoman morphs into Mystique.
Later, Jean and Scott discuss the Sirens. Jean expresses her satisfaction in helping others and hopes they can do it openly someday.

The training session at the start of the episode appears to be directly underneath the Institute – a link to the Morlock tunnels, also seen in the comics, most prolifically in the Mutant Massacre storyline
An all female squad of X-Men were the stars of the fourth volume of X-Men. The team in this episode could be compared to the current X-Terminators team, made up of Boom-Boom, Dazzler, Wolverine and Jubilee.
MAKING THE EARTH MOVE

Magma, whose real name is Amara Aquilla, was a force to be reckoned with in the mutant world, wielding the power to control lava and create earthquakes. Her first appearance was in New Mutants #8 back in October 1983, brought to life by the legendary Chris Claremont and artist Sal Buscema. She hailed from the hidden city of Nova Roma in the Amazon rainforest—a place founded by ancient Romans and shrouded in mystery for centuries.
Amara’s life took a dramatic turn during a New Mutants expedition in the Amazon. Disguised as an indigenous girl to escape a dark cult’s sacrifice, her true identity surfaced when the immortal mutant Selene threw her into a lava pit. Instead of meeting her end, her latent mutant abilities awakened, enabling her to survive and harness the power of magma. This pivotal moment marked the start of her superhero journey.
Joining the New Mutants, Magma found it challenging to adjust to modern life and the tech at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. Despite the initial culture shock, she soon proved her worth, using her powers to generate intense heat, control volcanic activity, and trigger earthquakes. Her fiery temper and fierce loyalty made her both a formidable ally and a challenging teammate.
Throughout her history, Magma faced numerous challenges. She briefly left the New Mutants to join the Hellions, a rival group of young mutants, but eventually found her way back to her original team. Her journey saw her taking part in major X-Men storylines like the Inferno crossover and the Necrosha event, playing crucial roles in battles against powerful foes. Magma’s resilience and determination firmly established her place in X-Men lore.
