Following the dramatic events of the previous episode, the stakes are higher than ever as the X-Men struggle to contain the escalating chaos. Jean Grey’s awakening and the emergence of the Phoenix Force have thrown the team into turmoil, and trust within their ranks is stretched to its limits. The episode explores the complex dynamics between the team members as they grapple with the dual threats of the Phoenix Force and their enemies’ relentless schemes.
As the plot unfolds, the X-Men must confront the growing threat posed by the Inner Circle. Emma Frost’s betrayal has left a significant impact, and her true allegiance becomes clearer with every passing moment. The Inner Circle’s grand plan to harness the Phoenix Force’s power brings an additional layer of danger, pushing the team to the brink. Themes of loyalty, power, and the struggle for control take centre stage, highlighting the delicate balance the X-Men must maintain to prevent catastrophe.
The X-Men are caught in a race against time, facing battles on multiple fronts as they work to stop both the Phoenix Force and Magneto’s impending war…
Future Xavier finds himself forced by the Sentinels to locate the world’s remaining mutants. Just as Colonel Moss is about to kill him, Wolverine swoops in to save the day. Accompanied by four X-23s, they cause major damage, taking out the Sentinels and freeing Xavier, who is relieved to see his old friend. Wolverine reveals he has discovered Master Mold’s location, setting the stage for an epic confrontation.
Meanwhile, in the present, the X-Men find themselves unconscious at the destroyed Sentinel factory after their failed attempt to stop the launch. At the Inner Circle mansion, Jean refuses to let Emma Frost access the Phoenix without consulting Professor Xavier. Using her powers, Emma overtakes Jean’s mind, with the help of the five Cuckoos, and they trick Jean into opening the barriers holding back the Phoenix Force. However, Jean’s concern for Scott hinders her cooperation, prompting Emma to go find him to subdue Jean’s resistance. The Inner Circle questions Emma’s loyalty and reveals their new plan to control the Phoenix instead of releasing it. Shocked by their power-hungry change of plans, Emma leaves to find Scott.
In her absence, the Inner Circle attempts to break the last barriers and capture the Phoenix without Emma. Emma discovers the unconscious X-Men and wakes Scott, telling him she knows where Jean is. Wolverine, semi-conscious, sees them race off. Upon returning to the Inner Circle mansion to stop the group, they are quickly overpowered by the Cuckoos’ psychic force.
On Genosha, Magneto uses his powers to take control of the Sentinels that are wreaking havoc on the island. His daughter Wanda is shocked when he instructs her to prepare for war, as he flies back to the mainland with his newly acquired Sentinels.

Jean’s robes in the concluding episodes resembles the gown she wore while with Magneto in X-Men: The Last Stand.
As in X-Men‘s The Inner Circle, Emma’s probes of Jean’s mind are blocked by her psychic rapport with Scott.
Genosha is attacked by Sentinels, which also happened on panel in New X-Men #115 as well as X-Men 97‘s Remember It. This time however, it’s Magneto who’s unleashed the robots on his own people in order to frame humanity.
Of all the X-Men to survive in the future, Hellion appears to have been killed in between this episode and Rover.
Magneto reprograms the Sentinels by taking them apart and switching their circuits, exactly as a live-action version of him will do in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
