Jubilee’s Fairytale Theatre is a celebration of imagination, storytelling, and friendship. In a captivating episode, Jubilee and a group of children find themselves in the caverns beneath the Xavier Mansion. To make the time pass as they await rescue, Jubilee spins a fairy tale. This clever narrative technique transports the audience into a magical realm where familiar X-Men figures take on new roles within the fairy tale’s tapestry.
The episode is a nod to Uncanny X-Men #153, known as “Kitty’s Fairy Tale”, where Kitty Pryde narrates a bedtime story to Illyana. The animated adaptation shifts the role of storyteller to Jubilee, opting for a classic “Swords & Sorcery” narrative in an alternate universe. This twist serves to delve deeper into Jubilee’s persona and her dynamic with the other X-Men, showcasing her character in a fresh and creative light.
Beneath the grandeur of Xavier‘s Mansion, Jubilee embarks on an adventurous journey through the subterranean caves with a group of eager children. Meanwhile, Professor X, Wolverine, and Gambit set off to Washington for a crucial meeting with the President. Suddenly, a seismic tremor triggers a cave-in, leaving Jubilee and the young ones stranded. With quick thinking, Jubilee sends out an S.O.S to the X-Men and, to keep spirits high, begins to weave an enthralling tale for the children as they await rescue.
She spins a tale of a gallant Prince and his beloved Princess Jean, who are perpetually thwarted by the nefarious Magnus the Magnificent, a sorcerer with an army of iron warriors at his command. In the depths of the forest, these metal warriors encounter Gambit, the valiant leader of the resistance against Magnus. Overwhelmed by the iron soldiers, Gambit’s fortunes turn when Jubilee, a legend in her own right, and her companion, the troll Logan, leap into battle, vanquishing the metal menace and rescuing Gambit.
In a gesture of gratitude, Gambit reveals the location of the coveted ‘MacTaggert Crystal‘ to Jubilee and Logan. This crystal, long sought after by Magnus, was supposed to be stolen by Gambit on Magnus’ behalf. However, the rogue decided to betray Magnus, keeping the real crystal for himself and concocting a decoy. The trio ventures into the cavern that conceals the crystal, only to be confronted by Sabretooth and a contingent of metal soldiers. A fierce battle erupts, but in the end, Sabretooth and his metallic minions are soundly defeated.
Xavier the All-Knowing manifests before Jubilee as an immense, spectral head, revealing to her the grand destiny that lies ahead. Her inherent goodness, Xavier proclaims, is the key to unleashing the MacTaggert Crystal’s formidable power. Meanwhile, Gambit guides Jubilee and Logan through a clandestine corridor leading to Magnus’s lair, only to be ambushed once more by his metallic minions. Faced with a dire ultimatum, Magnus coerces Jubilee into using her abilities to amplify his own through the crystal. Succumbing to the pressure, Jubilee channels her energy blasts into the crystal, inadvertently enhancing Magnus’s strength. Yet, in a twist of fate, Jubilee’s actions overload Magnus’s abilities, causing every piece of metal to be drawn to him uncontrollably.
In the cave, the X-Men succeed in rescuing Jubilee and the children. Jubilee concludes her story by mentioning that the Prince expressed his gratitude for her efforts in defeating Magnus by offering her an education, which being a free spirit, she decided not to accept.
And the adventure continues…

At the start of her tale, Jubilee rescues characters modelled after Longshot, her teenage crush from the third season’s episode of the same name, and her foster parents, who were last seen in the pilot episode.
The rat-turned-spy observing the group’s arrival and alerting Magnus is based on Morph.
Magnus the Magnificent bears a striking resemblance to Magnus from the one-shot Rahne of Terra set in a fairy-tale dimension. In a similar vein, Sabretooth’s depiction is based on his alternate persona from the follow-up story, Knight of Terra.
