PERSONAL NOTES OF CHARLES XAVIER
“There are few relationships in my life as complicated as the one I share with Erik Lehnsherr—Magneto. He was the first mutant I ever met, the first person who understood what it meant to be different in a world that feared us. In those early days, before the battles, before the betrayals, we were simply two men dreaming of a future where mutants could live without fear.
But dreams fracture under the weight of reality.
Erik’s path has always been one of force. He believes that humanity will never accept us, that coexistence is a fantasy. He has suffered in ways I cannot fully comprehend—his childhood shaped by the horrors of the Holocaust, his family torn from him, his trust in humanity shattered before it ever had a chance to form. He sees mutants as the next step in evolution, and he refuses to let them suffer as he once did.
I cannot condone his methods. His reactionary tactics, his willingness to sacrifice lives for the cause, his belief that war is the only answer—it is everything I stand against. And yet, I cannot bring myself to hate him.
Because for all his rage, for all his defiance, Erik is still the man I once called my closest friend.
There is a bond between us that cannot be severed. We have fought on opposite sides, we have betrayed each other, we have stood together when the world demanded it. There is trust between us, but it is never complete, never absolute. He has saved my life as many times as he has threatened it. He has been my greatest adversary and, at times, my greatest ally.
I do not know if we will ever truly reconcile. But I do know this—without Erik, I would not be the man I am today.
And perhaps, in his own way, he would say the same of me.”

X-MEN

FIRST APPEARANCE: Enter Magneto
VOICED BY: David Hemblen (X-Men); Matthew Waterson (X-Men ’97)
Erik and Charles first met in Israel where, whilst attempting to rescue a patient from criminals, exposed their mutant powers to each other [Enter Magneto]. Years later, Magneto emerges as a powerful figure advocating for mutant supremacy, clashing with the X-Men over his belief that mutants should rule over humanity [Deadly Reunions]. He attacks a military base to demonstrate mutant power, but his efforts are thwarted by the X-Men [Enter Magneto]. He later kidnaps Senator Kelly in anger, intending to kill him, but is severely injured in a Sentinel attack. Although he calls them ‘heroic’ fools, he later stands by the X-Men as an ally when they attack the Mastermold, and even saves Xavier’s life in the battle’s climax. [The Final Decision].
Magneto is later lured to the Savage Land by Mr. Sinister, where he and Xavier are trapped without their powers. Forced to rely on strategy and alliances, Magneto fights alongside Xavier to survive [Till Death Do Us Part (Part 2)]. When the X-Men arrive to rescue them, Sinister is defeated, and Magneto departs once more [Reunion (Part 2)].
Magneto resurfaces to create Asteroid M, a sanctuary for mutants above Earth. His vision of a mutant utopia is shattered when Fabian Cortez betrays him, attempting to kill him. Magneto falls through Earth’s atmosphere, but the planet’s magnetosphere heals him, allowing him to survive [Sanctuary (Part 1); Sanctuary (Part 2)].
Determined to find his lost love, Magda, Magneto searches for her, only to encounter Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, realizing they are his children [Family Ties]. He also teams up with Apocalypse in an attempt to return his wife to live, but later betrays Apocalypse when he realises that he is mad. He saves Wolverine’s life, and is with the X-Men when they return home [Beyond Good and Evil]. Later, during the Phalanx invasion, Magneto is asked to help because the alien threat has captured his son. Though reluctant, he ultimately aids the X-Men in stopping the Phalanx [The Phalanx Covenant (Part 2)].
When Xavier is injured by Gyrich on national televisions, Magneto rallies mutants to Genosha, preparing an army to take the world, but is persuaded by Jean Grey to return with them and use his powers to amplify Charles’ powers – only then can he reach out to Lilandra and maybe survive. He does so, showing that despite their ideological differences, their bond remains strong [Graduation Day].
Following Xavier’s departure, Magneto inherits his estate and joins the X-Men, attempting to lead them through turbulent times [To Me, My X-Men]. He discovers that he can touch Rogue, deepening their connection [Mutant Liberation Begins]. However, Magneto is soon arrested and put on trial for his past actions. He is later killed on Genosha, but his body is never recovered; he is alive, taken by Bastion, turning him into a prisoner [Bright Eyes]. As his mind unravels, Magneto attempts to destroy the world, consumed by grief and rage, leading to a climactic confrontation with the X-Men, during which Magneto used his powers to remove the adamantium from Wolverine’s skeleton. The following psychic attack by Charles nearly killed Magneto [Tolerance is Extinction (Part 1)].
After the destruction of Asteroid M, the X-Men and Magneto were presumed killed, but Magneto was among the X-Men who found themselves in the past – with a young En Sabah Nur, aka Apocalypse [Tolerance is Extinction (Part 3)].

X-MEN: EVOLUTION

FIRST APPEARANCE: Strategy X
VOICED BY: Christopher Judge
A shadowy figure pulling the strings from behind the scenes, Magneto operates more as a manipulator than a direct leader. While the Brotherhood is officially led by Mystique, Magneto remains the true mastermind, orchestrating events to push mutants toward his vision of dominance.
Unlike previous versions, Magneto is more elusive, appearing sporadically to test mutants and recruit those he deems worthy. His influence extends beyond the Brotherhood, as he also commands the Acolytes, a more elite force of mutants loyal to his cause.
His ultimate goal remains unchanged: ensuring mutant superiority. But in this iteration, he plays a long game, carefully manoeuvring pieces rather than engaging in direct conflict.
WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN

FIRST APPEARANCE: Hindsight (Part 3)
VOICED BY: Tom Kane
A master strategist and unwavering leader, Magneto rules Genosha, a supposed mutant sanctuary, with an iron will. While publicly advocating for mutant rights, his true intentions are far more ruthless – he seeks dominance, not coexistence.
Following the explosion that disbands the X-Men, Magneto seizes the opportunity to consolidate power, welcoming displaced mutants into Genosha while secretly preparing for war. His influence extends beyond his island nation, manipulating events to ensure mutant superiority.
His relationship with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch remains strained, as his children struggle with his extremist ideology. Despite their doubts, Quicksilver remains loyal, acting as Magneto’s enforcer. He is most protective of his youngest daughter, Lorna, aka Polaris.
As Wolverine attempts to rebuild the X-Men, Magneto positions himself as both an ally and an adversary, offering sanctuary while orchestrating events that push mutants toward conflict. His ultimate goal? To force humanity into submission, ensuring a future where mutants reign supreme.
