[MUTANT ABILITIES] Control and manipulation of flame
…ACCESSING…
PERSONAL NOTES OF CHARLES XAVIER
“St. John Allerdyce – Pyro – is a man consumed by fire, both in ability and temperament. His mutation grants him control over flame, though not the power to create it. He has always needed an external source, a spark to ignite the inferno he wields so effortlessly.
Born in Sydney, Australia, he once lived a life far removed from battle – a journalist, a novelist, a man of words rather than war. But fate had other plans. Mystique recruited him into the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and from that moment, his life became one of conflict. He thrived in chaos, revelling in destruction, his flamboyant nature making him both unpredictable and dangerous.
His closest bond was with Avalanche. The two were inseparable, their friendship forged in battle and mischief. Avalanche, grounded and steady, was the perfect counterbalance to Pyro’s recklessness. They fought together, laughed together, and, in their own way, understood each other better than anyone else ever could.
But fire burns out. The Legacy Virus struck Pyro down, robbing him of the life he had so fiercely clung to. In his final moments, he did something unexpected – he saved Senator Robert Kelly, a man he had once sought to destroy. Perhaps, in the end, he sought redemption.
And yet, death is no longer the end. With the advent of mutant resurrection, Pyro has returned, reborn into a world that has changed in his absence. He has found a new home among the Marauders, sailing under Kate Pryde’s banner, a pirate in search of purpose.
He is still reckless, still wild, but there is something different now – a sense that he is trying, in his own way, to be more than the man he once was.
Time will tell if the fire within him will consume him once more, or if he will finally learn to control it.”

X-MEN

FIRST APPEARANCE: Slave Island
VOICED BY: Graham Haley
Pyro, a flamboyant and reckless member of the Brotherhood of Mutants, is introduced as part of Mystique’s team. His mutant ability allows him to manipulate fire, though he cannot generate it himself. He often wields flamethrowers to create and control blazes, using them both offensively and theatrically [A Rogue’s Tale; Remember It].
He first appears alongside Blob and Avalanche in an attack on a mutant cure facility, believing it to be a threat to mutant kind. His fiery personality and eagerness for destruction are evident as he clashes with the X-Men, particularly Rogue. However, their mission is ultimately thwarted [The Cure]. He also attacks Washington DC with the rest of the Brotherhood, including the Blob [Days of Future Past (Part 2)].
Later, Pyro plays a supporting role in Mystique’s attempt to reclaim Rogue. During a Brotherhood attack on a marketplace, he dramatically creates the X-Men logo in flames to lure them into battle. His usual bravado is on display, but he is ultimately defeated when Storm uses her powers to neutralize him and his allies [A Rogue’s Tale].
FILM SERIES

FIRST APPEARANCE: X-Men
OTHER APPEARANCES: X2; X-Men: The Last Stand; Marvel Studios’ Deadpool and Wolverine
PLAYED BY: Alexander Burton (X-Men); Aaron Stanford (X2; X-Men: The Last Stand; Marvel Studios’ Deadpool and Wolverine)
John Allerdyce, known as Pyro, is a mutant with the ability to manipulate fire, though he cannot generate it himself. He is first introduced as a student at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, where he displays a rebellious streak and a fascination with his own power. He carries a lighter to create flames, which he then amplifies into destructive fireballs [X-Men].
As tensions between mutants and humans escalate, Pyro becomes increasingly disillusioned with Xavier’s teachings. When confronted by military forces, he embraces his aggressive instincts, attacking police officers and showcasing his destructive potential. Magneto recognizes his raw power and recruits him into the Brotherhood of Mutants, offering him the freedom to wield his abilities without restraint [X2].
Under Magneto’s influence, Pyro becomes a loyal follower, participating in major conflicts against the X-Men. His rivalry with Iceman intensifies, culminating in a dramatic showdown where his former friend ultimately defeats him. Pyro’s arrogance and unchecked aggression prove to be his downfall, as the Brotherhood’s plans unravel [X-Men: The Last Stand].
A variant of Pyro appeared in the void, secretly working for the TVA to keep Cassandra Nova under surveillance. He was killed by Nova when she discovered his ruse [Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine].
X-MEN: EVOLUTION

FIRST APPEARANCE: Day Of Reckoning (Part 1)
VOICED BY: Trevor Devall
Pyro is fiercely devoted to Magneto, seeing him as the ultimate leader of mutant kind. Unlike the younger Brotherhood members, Pyro is more experienced and battle-hardened, making him a dangerous asset in Magneto’s war against humanity. His loyalty is unwavering, and he follows orders without hesitation, revelling in destruction.
Pyro is portrayed as mentally unstable, often laughing maniacally during battles and showing little regard for the destruction he causes. His obsession with fire goes beyond simple combat — he enjoys manipulating flames into shapes, often creating fiery creatures to intimidate his enemies. His recklessness makes him unpredictable, even to Magneto, who values his power but understands the risks of his instability.
Pyro’s clashes with the X-Men are explosive, particularly when facing Wolverine, whose no-nonsense approach contrasts sharply with Pyro’s chaotic energy. His battles with the team often result in large-scale destruction, forcing the X-Men to contain his fiery rampages before they spiral out of control.
WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN

FIRST APPEARANCE: Hindsight (Part 1)
VOICED BY: Nolan North
Pyro is fiercely loyal to Magneto, believing in his vision of mutant supremacy. A previous student at Xavier’s, after being rescued from the MRD, Pyro joined the mutants who slunk into the shadows. Eventually he found his way to Genosha – under the servitude of Magneto. Unlike Quicksilver, who harbours doubts, Pyro embraces the Brotherhood’s mission with unwavering enthusiasm. His eagerness to prove himself often leads him into reckless situations, making him both an asset and a liability.
Pyro’s clashes with the X-Men are frequent and explosive – literally. His battles with Gambit are particularly intense, as Remy’s whimsical approach contrasts sharply with Pyro’s chaotic energy. Despite his bravado, Pyro is not as disciplined as other Brotherhood members, making him vulnerable in prolonged fights.
While Magneto values Pyro’s abilities, he is aware of his unpredictability. Pyro’s tendency to act on impulse rather than strategy means he is often deployed as a distraction or shock force, rather than a key tactician.
As tensions between mutants and humans escalate, Pyro becomes one of the Brotherhood’s most aggressive fighters, using his flames to intimidate and overpower opponents. His reckless nature ensures that wherever Pyro goes, destruction follows.
