[MUTANT ABILITIES] Superhuman speed
…ACCESSING…
PERSONAL NOTES OF CHARLES XAVIER
“Pietro Maximoff – Quicksilver – is a man who has always been running. His mutation grants him superhuman speed, allowing him to move faster than the eye can track, faster than thought itself. But his greatest challenge has never been his velocity – it has been his inability to slow down.
Born alongside his twin sister, Wanda, Pietro’s early years were marked by uncertainty. For much of his life, he believed himself to be the son of Magneto, a revelation that shaped his identity in ways he could never fully escape. He and Wanda were recruited into the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, serving Magneto out of obligation rather than conviction. But Pietro has never been one to follow blindly. His loyalty has always been to his sister first, and to his own sense of justice second.
He has walked many paths = an adversary to the X-Men, a member of the Avengers, a leader, a fugitive. His arrogance is legendary, his temper quick to ignite. He is fiercely protective of Wanda, often to the point of recklessness. His need for control, for certainty, has led him to make choices that have had devastating consequences.
The events of House of M shattered his world. In his desperation to protect Wanda, he manipulated reality itself, leading to the near-extinction of mutant kind. The weight of that guilt has never truly left him. He has sought redemption, but his pride makes it difficult for him to ask for forgiveness.
And yet, for all his flaws, Pietro is not without virtue. He is loyal, determined, and, in his own way, deeply wounded. He has spent his life running – from his past, from his mistakes, from himself.
Perhaps, one day, he will learn to stop.”

X-MEN

FIRST APPEARANCE: Cold Comfort
VOICED BY: Adrian Egan; Paul Haddad
Unlike other adaptations, Quicksilver is introduced as a member of X-Factor, the U.S. government’s mutant task force. He works alongside Havok, Polaris, Strong Guy, Wolfsbane, and his sister, Scarlet Witch, engaging in sanctioned missions rather than operating as a rogue mutant.
Quicksilver’s superspeed makes him an invaluable asset, allowing him to complete objectives before enemies can react. He is confident, sometimes cocky, and often frustrated by bureaucratic restrictions placed on X-Factor’s actions. His loyalty to mutant kind is strong, but he operates within the law—unlike his father, Magneto, whose extremist ideology he outright rejects [Cold Comfort].
Quicksilver’s strained relationship with Magneto is explored in depth. While he is Magneto’s biological son, Pietro refuses to follow in his father’s footsteps, believing in coexistence rather than conquest. His sister, Scarlet Witch, shares his stance, but their conflicting emotions regarding Magneto make them hesitant to fully distance themselves from him [Family Ties].
Despite rejecting Magneto’s militant approach, Pietro remains conflicted about their connection, especially when Magneto is publicly framed as a villain. The tension between father and son remains unresolved, with Quicksilver struggling between duty and family loyalty [The Phalanx Covenant (Part 2)].
FILM SERIES

FIRST APPEARANCE: X-Men: Days of Future Past
OTHER APPEARANCES: X-Men: Apocalypse; X-Men: Dark Phoenix; Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron; Marvel Studios’ WandaVision; Marvel Studios’ Agatha All Along
PLAYED BY: Evan Peters (X-Men franchise; Marvel Studios’ WandaVision); Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron)
Peter Maximoff, known as Quicksilver, is a mutant with superhuman speed and enhanced reflexes. He is introduced when Wolverine and Charles Xavier seek his help in breaking Magneto out of the Pentagon. Using his speed, Quicksilver effortlessly infiltrates the facility, creating a memorable slow-motion sequence where he redirects bullets and incapacitates guards before Magneto is freed [X-Men: Days of Future Past].
Years later, Quicksilver learns that Magneto is his father but struggles with whether to reveal the truth. When Apocalypse emerges, Quicksilver joins the X-Men to stop him, using his speed to evacuate the mansion before an explosion. He later battles Apocalypse but is injured, preventing him from fully engaging in the final fight [X-Men: Apocalypse].
Quicksilver remains with the X-Men but plays a minor role in their battle against the alien Vuk. He is injured early in the conflict and does not participate in the final showdown [X-Men: Dark Phoenix].

In another reality, a Pietro Maximoff, known as Quicksilver, was born in Sokovia alongside his twin sister, Wanda. After their parents were killed by a Stark Industries missile, the twins developed a deep hatred for Tony Stark and sought revenge. They volunteered for HYDRA’s experiments, where exposure to the Mind Stone granted Pietro superhuman speed [Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron].
Following HYDRA’s downfall, Pietro and Wanda joined Ultron, believing he could help them destroy Stark. However, they soon realized Ultron’s true intentions and switched sides, aiding the Avengers in stopping him. During the Battle of Sokovia, Pietro sacrificed himself to save Hawkeye and a civilian, dying in the process [Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron].
His legacy lived on, with Hawkeye naming his son Nathaniel Pietro Barton in his honour. Wanda continued to mourn him, and his memory resurfaced during the Westview incident, where Agatha Harkness manipulated a man named Ralph Bohner to impersonate Pietro in an attempt to deceive Wanda. This version resembled the variant with ties to the X-Men [Marvel Studios’ WandaVision]. Ralph would later be traumatised by these events [Marvel Studios’ Agatha All Along].
X-MEN: EVOLUTION

FIRST APPEARANCE: Speed and the Spyke
VOICED BY: Richard Ian Cox
Arrogant, impulsive, and fiercely loyal to his father, Quicksilver is one of the Brotherhood’s most active members. His superspeed makes him a formidable opponent, allowing him to outmanoeuvre enemies with ease.
Unlike his comic counterpart, this version of Quicksilver is more reckless and immature, often acting without thinking. His rivalry with the X-Men – particularly Spyke -adds tension to their encounters, as both mutants constantly try to one-up each other.
Despite his bravado, Quicksilver struggles with his father’s expectations. Magneto sees him as a tool rather than a son, and Pietro’s desperate attempts to prove himself often lead to reckless decisions.
WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN

FIRST APPEARANCE: Hindsight (Part 2)
VOICED BY: Mark Hildreth
Fast, cunning, and fiercely loyal to his father, Quicksilver serves as Magneto’s right hand, executing missions with precision and arrogance. His speed makes him a formidable opponent, allowing him to outmanoeuvre enemies before they can react.
Despite his unwavering loyalty to Magneto, Quicksilver harbours doubts about his father’s methods. His relationship with Scarlet Witch is complicated—while she rejects Magneto’s ideology, he remains entangled in it, unable to break free from his father’s shadow.
Quicksilver plays a pivotal role in reuniting the Brotherhood, breaking Toad out of prison and recruiting Blob and Avalanche to strengthen their ranks. His actions set the stage for escalating tensions between the Brotherhood and the X-Men, ensuring that Magneto’s vision remains on course.
