PERSONAL NOTES OF CHARLES XAVIER
“There are moments when I allow myself to reflect – not on the world, not on the future of mutant kind, but on the man I have become. It is a rare indulgence, one I seldom permit, for introspection is a luxury when the fate of so many rests upon your shoulders. And yet, I must ask myself: Who is Charles Xavier?
I have been called many things. A teacher. A leader. A visionary. A fool. I have built a dream upon the fragile foundation of hope, believing that mutants and humans can coexist, that understanding can triumph over fear. I have seen that dream tested, shattered, rebuilt, and tested again. And still, I hold onto it, though I sometimes wonder if it is hope that drives me or sheer stubbornness.
I have made mistakes. More than I care to admit. I have asked too much of my students, placed burdens upon them that no one should bear. I have sent them into battle, knowing that some may not return. I have withheld truths, believing that ignorance might spare them pain, only to learn that deception breeds resentment. I have failed those who trusted me, and I carry those failures with me always.
I have lost friends. Erik, whose brilliance is matched only by his conviction, stands forever at the crossroads between ally and adversary. We have fought, we have reconciled, we have fought again. I do not know if we will ever truly understand one another, but I know that without him, I would not be the man I am today.
I have loved. Lilandra, whose presence reminds me that there is more to existence than the struggles of our kind. She sees me not as a leader, not as a mutant, but simply as a man. And yet, duty has always come first.
I have seen the future. I have glimpsed what awaits us should we fail. I have seen mutants hunted, exterminated, erased from history. I have seen the world I fear most, and I have fought to ensure it never comes to pass. But I have also seen hope. I have seen young mutants rise, defying the odds, proving that the dream is worth fighting for.
And so, I continue. I teach. I lead. I hope. Because to abandon the dream would be to abandon myself. And if I am anything, I am a man who believes.”

X-MEN

FIRST APPEARANCE: Night of the Sentinels (Part 1)
VOICED BY: Cedric Smith (X-Men); Ross Marquand (X-Men ’97)
Charles Xavier has always believed in the dream of peaceful coexistence between mutants and humanity, but from the moment the X-Men intervened to save Jubilee from the Sentinels, he knew that dream would be tested like never before [Night of the Sentinels (Part 1)]. The battle against the Mutant Control Agency and the destruction of Master Mold proved that the world was not ready to accept mutants, but Xavier remained steadfast, guiding his students through their struggles, offering wisdom even as the threats against them grew [The Final Decision].
When he lost his powers in the Savage Land, he was forced to rely on something far more fragile than telepathy – trust. Stranded in a land where his abilities meant nothing, he found himself walking again, free from the limitations of his broken body. But survival required an alliance with Magneto, his oldest friend and greatest adversary. Together, they fought against the forces that sought to destroy them, reaffirming their bond despite their opposing views on mutant rights [Till Death Do Us Part (Part 2) through Reunion (Part 2)].
The nightmares began after he touched the Shi’ar craft, visions of destruction and power beyond comprehension [Out of the Past (Part 2)]. He had seen many horrors in his time, but nothing could prepare him for the Phoenix Force. Jean Grey’s transformation into the Phoenix, and later the Dark Phoenix, tested his resolve. He had trained her, guided her, and now he could only watch as she teetered on the edge of oblivion. When she was gone, the X-Men fractured, and Xavier was left to pick up the pieces, knowing that his dream had nearly been undone [The Phoenix Saga; The Dark Phoenix Saga].
His past came back to haunt him when the Shadow King resurfaced, forcing him to confront the battle that had shaped Storm’s childhood [Xavier Remembers]. Then came Magneto’s attempt to create a haven for mutants on Asteroid M. Xavier travelled there, hoping to reason with his old friend, but the utopia was doomed before it could begin [Sanctuary]. And when Apocalypse struck, Xavier found himself captured, forced to rally the world’s psychics to stop a madman from reshaping time itself [Beyond Good and Evil].
But nothing could prepare him for the attack by Henry Peter Gyrich. It left him broken, his mind unravelling, his body failing. As he lay dying, Magneto, his greatest rival, stood beside him, not as an enemy, but as a friend. With the last of his strength, Xavier reached out to Lilandra, his love, his salvation. She came for him, taking him to the Shi’ar Empire, where he would receive the care Earth could not provide [Graduation Day].
To the world, Charles Xavier was dead. The X-Men mourned him, the dream seemingly lost [To Me, My X-Men]. But dreams do not die so easily. And when the time came, Xavier returned, summoning his students once more, ready to guide them into the next chapter of their lives [Tolerance is Extinction (Part 1)]. He battled Magneto and attacked his mind, and painstakingly helped his friend put his mind back together [Tolerance is Extinction (Part 2)].
When Asteroid M was destroyed, Charles, amongst a group of X-Men, awoke to find themselves in the ancient past! [Tolerance is Extinction (Part 3)]

Charles Xavier’s journey is one of leadership, sacrifice, and evolution. From his early days as a brilliant but carefree telepath to his final moments as a man burdened by the weight of his past, his story is defined by his unwavering belief in peaceful coexistence between mutants and humanity.
In his youth, Xavier is idealistic, eager to build a future where mutants can thrive without fear. He gathers a team, forming the first X-Men, and forges a deep friendship with Erik Lehnsherr. But their bond is tested as their ideological differences emerge – Xavier believes in diplomacy, while Erik sees war as inevitable. Their friendship fractures, setting the stage for years of conflict [X-Men: First Class].
As Xavier grows into his role as mentor and leader, he establishes his school, offering young mutants a sanctuary where they can learn to control their abilities. His telepathic powers make him one of the most formidable minds on the planet, but his greatest strength lies in his ability to inspire others [X-Men]. He guides his students through battles against those who seek to harm them, always holding onto the hope that one day, mutants and humans will stand as equals [X2].
But his path is not without loss. He faces betrayal, the destruction of his school, and the rise of forces beyond his control. At one point, he is broken – his hope shattered, his body failing him. He retreats into isolation, drowning in regret, until an old friend reminds him of who he once was. Slowly, he rebuilds, reclaiming his purpose, leading the X-Men once more [X-Men: Days of Future Past].
His greatest failure comes when he attempts to suppress a power too great to be contained. His actions lead to tragedy, and he pays the ultimate price, struck down by one of his own. For a time, it seems his dream has died with him [X-Men: The Last Stand]. But fate intervenes, rewriting history, giving him a second chance to guide the next generation [X-Men: Days of Future Past].
As the years pass, Xavier’s influence remains strong, but his choices weigh heavily upon him. He sees the consequences of his leadership, the burdens his students carry, and the mistakes he cannot undo. Eventually, he steps away, leaving the X-Men to forge their own path [X-Men: Dark Phoenix].
In his final days, Xavier is no longer the powerful figure he once was. His mind, once his greatest asset, betrays him, his abilities spiralling out of control. He is cared for by the one student who has never abandoned him, but even that loyalty cannot protect him from the inevitable. His journey ends in heartbreak, his life taken by a force beyond his control [Logan].
Yet even in death, his legacy endures. His dream, though battered and tested, lives on in those who believed in him. And as long as there are mutants willing to fight for a better world, Charles Xavier will never truly be gone.
A variant of Charles Xavier was the leader of the Illuminati on Earth-38. When their Wanda Maximoff was possessed by one from another reality, the Illuminati quickly fell to her power. Charles attempted to reach the real Wanda inside her mind, but was killed when the Scarlet Witch snapped his neck in the physical world [Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness].
X-MEN: EVOLUTION

FIRST APPEARANCE: Strategy X
VOICED BY: David Kaye
Charles Xavier, also known as Professor X, is the founder of the Xavier Institute for Gifted Youngsters and the leader of the X-Men. A powerful telepath, he is dedicated to teaching young mutants how to control their abilities while advocating for peaceful coexistence between mutants and humanity.

He serves as a mentor, guiding them through their struggles with their powers and their place in the world. His leadership is tested as he faces threats from Magneto’s Brotherhood of Mutants and other adversaries.
Throughout the series, Xavier’s past is explored, including his relationship with Magneto and his connection to Cain Marko, his half-brother who becomes Juggernaut. Despite these challenges, Xavier remains committed to his dream of unity between mutants and humans.
WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN

FIRST APPEARANCE: Hindsight (Part 1)
VOICED BY: Jim Ward
