PERSONAL NOTES OF CHARLES XAVIER
“There are few students who have entered my school with as much promise as Katherine Anne Pryde. From the moment she arrived, she demonstrated intelligence, resilience, and an unwavering determination to prove herself. She was the youngest to ever join the X-Men, barely a teenager, yet she carried herself with a maturity beyond her years.
Kitty’s mutation – her ability to phase through solid matter – was remarkable, but it was her mind that truly set her apart. She was a prodigy, absorbing knowledge at an astonishing rate, mastering complex technology, and quickly becoming one of the most resourceful members of the team. Her early years were marked by struggle, as she navigated the dangers of being an X-Man while still trying to hold onto the remnants of a normal childhood.
She formed deep bonds with her teammates – her friendship with Ororo Munroe was particularly profound, a sisterhood built on mutual respect and understanding. Her relationship with Piotr Rasputin was one of youthful affection, though it carried its own complications. And then there was Logan – Wolverine – who became an unlikely mentor, shaping her into a warrior with a sharp mind and an unbreakable spirit.
Kitty’s journey took her far beyond the halls of my school. She became a founding member of Excalibur, forging a new path in Britain alongside Nightcrawler and Rachel Summers. She faced demons – both literal and figurative – learning the ways of the ninja under Ogun’s brutal tutelage. She ventured into space, standing alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy, and even took on the mantle of Star-Lord, proving that her adaptability knew no bounds.
But perhaps her most defining role came when she stepped into leadership. As the Red Queen of the Hellfire Trading Company, she commanded respect, navigating the political complexities of Krakoa with a keen mind and an unshakable will. She was no longer the young girl who had once hesitated to phase through walls – she was a leader, a warrior, and a force to be reckoned with.
Kitty Pryde has lived many lives, worn many names – Sprite, Ariel, Shadowcat, Captain Kate Pryde. But through it all, she has remained true to herself. She is proof that strength is not measured by power alone, but by the ability to endure, to evolve, and to fight for what is right.
She was once my student. Now, she is one of the greatest X-Men to ever live.”

X-MEN

Kitty Pryde was featured as the lead introductory character for the pilot episode Pryde of the X-Men in 1985. While this episode did not lead to a series, the considered failure of the pilot meant that when it came to X-Men the animated series in 1992, the producers were asked to keep as far away from the character as possible and the newer character of Jubilee was put in the same role. Many of Kitty’s stories were adapted out for Jubilee.
In X-Men ’97 we received a glimpse of Kitty in her 90s Shadowcat uniform in two episodes thus far: as a character in a game [Motendo] and on a picture of potential recruits in Forge’s workshop [Tolerance is Extinction (Part 3)] – which indicates that she is active in this reality.

X-MEN: EVOLUTION

FIRST APPEARANCE: The X-Impulse
VOICED BY: Maggie Blue O’Hara
Katherine “Kitty” Anne Pryde is a young mutant with the ability to phase through solid objects, earning her the codename Shadowcat. Originally from Deerfield, Illinois, Kitty is introduced as one of the newer recruits to the X-Men, joining the team after her powers manifest unexpectedly – her bed partially phasing into the ceiling.
Kitty is bright, cheerful, and optimistic, though she initially carries a bit of a valley-girl persona. Over time, she matures into a more thoughtful and capable member of the team, proving herself in battle and growing into her role as an X-Man. Despite her friendly nature, she can be easily frustrated, particularly when dealing with the Brotherhood or Lance Alvers, who persistently tries to win her over. Though she initially resists his advances, she eventually develops a complicated on-again, off-again relationship with him.
As Shadowcat, Kitty’s phasing ability allows her to pass through walls, floors, and even people, making her an invaluable asset in stealth missions. She also learns to use her powers in combat, dodging attacks by becoming intangible and even phasing others with her. However, her abilities require concentration, and she occasionally struggles with control, especially under stress.
Kitty forms strong friendships with her teammates, particularly Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler), with whom she shares a playful sibling-like bond. She also briefly shows interest in Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Jason Nasier, though these connections never fully develop.
Kitty’s journey in the series is one of growth – she starts as a somewhat naive teenager but evolves into a confident and capable hero. By the later seasons, she is a key member of the X-Men, standing alongside her teammates in the fight against Magneto, Apocalypse, and other threats.

She can phase others with her, disrupt electronics, and even use her powers offensively by solidifying inside machinery to destroy it. Her agility and quick thinking make her a formidable opponent, and she is often seen leading younger mutants, reinforcing her role as a mentor figure.
Kitty maintains a close friendship with Iceman, though their dynamic carries hints of romantic tension. She also shares a strong bond with Beast, often assisting him in scientific endeavours and tactical planning. Her leadership qualities shine as she helps Wolverine guide the next generation of mutants, proving herself as one of the most reliable members of the team.
