PERSONAL NOTES OF CHARLES XAVIER
“Few mutants have ever stood at the crossroads of fate like Wanda Maximoff. To call her a force of nature would be an understatement – she is chaos incarnate, both in power and in spirit. I have spent years attempting to help her, to guide her, but Wanda has never been one to walk a singular path. She is shaped by forces beyond her control, yet she wields control over forces beyond comprehension.
Her history is one of manipulation and loss. Raised under the shadow of Magneto, she believed herself to be his daughter – a revelation that dictated much of her early years. But even beyond that illusion, Wanda struggled for stability. She was cursed with power she could never fully understand, and the world was never kind to her when she faltered. The Brotherhood, the X-Men, the Avengers – each represented a possible future, but none gave her true belonging.
If there is one constant in her life, it is Pietro. Her twin brother, the only one who has ever truly understood her. She tempers his arrogance; he steadies her fury. There are few bonds as unshakable as theirs, forged through hardship and survival. When Wanda has teetered on the edge of destruction, it is often Pietro alone who could bring her back. Their relationship is complicated, sometimes strained, but unwavering. In many ways, he is the tether that keeps her from being lost entirely to the chaos within her.
I have tried, on more than one occasion, to offer her guidance, to temper the storm. Sometimes she listens. Sometimes she does not. Her choices have altered the fabric of reality itself – erased mutant kind, reshaped the world, shattered destinies – and yet she remains neither hero nor villain. She is something else entirely. A figure beyond labels, beyond absolutes.
Wanda Maximoff has never needed permission to rewrite the world. Perhaps one day, she will finally find a place where she does not have to tear reality apart simply to make sense of it. When that day comes, I hope she will know that she was never truly alone.”

They were told that they were the children of Magneto and his deceased wife Magda and both travelled to Wundagore Mountain in Transia, where they were born, to discover the truth.
The High Evolutionary confirmed their blood connection to Magneto, but attempted to use the twins DNA to his own ends. Escaping, Magneto and the twins worked together, despite their tensions, and stopped the Evolutionary with aid from the X-Men. Wanda walked away from Magneto, unable to accept him [Family Ties]. While sifting through his memories, Erik saw Wanda from a distance, on a boat in his mind, proving that clearly she is never far from his thoughts [Tolerance is Extinction (Part 3)].

Wanda Maximoff, alongside her twin brother, Pietro are revealed as test subjects of HYDRA, having undergone experiments with Loki’s Scepter, which contained the Mind Stone. While Pietro developed super-speed, Wanda gained telekinetic and energy manipulation abilities, hinting at her immense potential [Captain America: The Winter Soldier].
When Ultron attacks the world, Wanda and Pietro initially side with Ultron, seeking revenge against Tony Stark for the destruction of their home country, Sokovia. However, upon realizing Ultron’s true intentions, they switch sides and fight alongside the Avengers. Wanda’s abilities prove crucial in the battle, but she suffers a devastating loss when Pietro is killed. In the aftermath, she joins the Avengers, relocating to their compound in the United States [Avengers: Age of Ultron].
Wanda struggles with the consequences of her powers, particularly after an incident in Lagos results in civilian casualties. She becomes a central figure in the conflict between Iron Man and Captain America, ultimately siding with Steve Rogers and going into hiding after the battle. Her relationship with Vision deepens during this time, leading to a quiet life together away from the public eye [Captain America: Civil War].
Wanda and Vision are later targeted by Thanos’ forces due to the Mind Stone embedded in Vision’s forehead. Despite their efforts, Wanda is forced to destroy the stone to prevent Thanos from obtaining it, only for him to reverse time and take it anyway. Vision is killed, and Wanda is among those who vanish when Thanos snaps his fingers, wiping out half of all life in the universe [Avengers: Infinity War].
She returns after being resurrected by the Hulk’s snap. In the final battle against Thanos, Wanda unleashes her full fury, nearly overpowering him single-handedly. Though the Avengers emerge victorious, Vision remains dead, leaving Wanda to grieve his loss [Avengers: Endgame].
Her grief leaves her alone, where she unknowingly creates a false reality in the town of Westview, resurrecting Vision and fabricating a life with him. As she struggles to maintain control, she is confronted by S.W.O.R.D. and Agatha Harkness, who reveals that Wanda is the prophesied Scarlet Witch. Wanda ultimately accepts her true identity, dismantling the illusion and saying goodbye to Vision and their created children, Billy and Tommy [WandaVision].
Later, Wanda, corrupted by the Darkhold, seeks to reunite with her children from an alternate reality. Her descent into villainy leads her to massacre the Illuminati and battle Doctor Strange. Ultimately, she realizes the horror of her actions and destroys the Darkhold across all realities, seemingly sacrificing herself in the process [Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness].
Wanda’s journey in the MCU is one of immense power, tragedy, and transformation. She evolves from a grieving survivor to a reality-warping force, struggling with the weight of her abilities and the consequences of her choices. Whether she truly perished or will return remains uncertain, but her legacy as the Scarlet Witch is undeniable.
X-MEN: EVOLUTION

FIRST APPEARANCE: The HeX Factor
VOICED BY: Kelly Sheridan
As the daughter of Magneto and twin sister of Pietro Maximoff (Quicksilver), Wanda’s early life was marked by abandonment. Due to the uncontrollable nature of her probability-altering powers, Magneto deemed her too dangerous and had her institutionalized, leaving her with a deep-seated hatred for him. When she is finally freed by Mystique, Wanda joins the Brotherhood of Mutants, but her motivations are far more personal than ideological – she seeks revenge against her father for what he did to her.
Wanda’s powers allow her to manipulate probability, creating chaotic effects that disrupt her enemies Unlike other versions of Scarlet Witch, her abilities manifest as blue energy, which she uses to hex opponents, causing them to lose control of their own powers. Her instability makes her unpredictable, and her anger often fuels her abilities, making her one of the most dangerous members of the Brotherhood.
Her relationship with Pietro is strained, as she resents him for siding with Magneto despite their father’s betrayal. However, despite her fury, she is the only one who can truly keep Pietro in check, and their sibling bond remains complicated but undeniable. Wanda also has brief interactions with the X-Men, though she never fully aligns with them, remaining an outsider driven by her own vendetta.
By the end of the series, Wanda’s fate remains uncertain. Though she temporarily loses her hatred for Magneto due to Mastermind’s manipulation, her true nature resurfaces, leaving her future open-ended. She is on her own path, shaped by pain, and driven by a need for control in a world that has never given her any.
WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN

FIRST APPEARANCE: Greetings from Genosha
VOICED BY: Kate Higgins
Wanda Maximoff, known as the Scarlet Witch, is a powerful mutant with reality-altering abilities and a complicated relationship with both the Brotherhood of Mutants and her father, Magneto. In Wolverine and the X-Men, she is portrayed as one of the most conflicted characters, torn between loyalty to her father and her own moral compass.
As the daughter of Magneto, Wanda holds a high-ranking position within the Brotherhood, yet she frequently clashes with her father over his extremist views. Unlike her brother, Pietro (Quicksilver), who is fiercely loyal to Magneto’s cause, Wanda questions his methods and seeks a more balanced approach to mutant-human relations. Her ability to manipulate probability and reality makes her one of the most formidable mutants in the series, though she often struggles with the weight of her power.
Throughout the series, Wanda’s relationship with Pietro remains a defining aspect of her character. She is the only one who can calm his impulsive nature, and despite their ideological differences, their sibling bond remains strong. However, her growing disillusionment with Magneto leads her to secretly work against him, attempting to prevent his more destructive plans from coming to fruition.
Wanda’s internal conflict reaches a breaking point when Magneto betrays her trust, imprisoning her on Genosha to prevent her interference. This act solidifies her opposition to her father, and she ultimately plays a crucial role in resisting his control. Though she does not fully align with the X-Men, her actions prove that she is not a villain – she is a woman fighting for autonomy, caught between duty and personal conviction.
By the end of the series, Wanda remains a wildcard, neither fully siding with the X-Men nor the Brotherhood. Her story is one of defiance, resilience, and the struggle to carve out her own path beyond the expectations placed upon her.
