PERSONAL NOTES OF CHARLES XAVIER
“Danielle Moonstar was never an ordinary student at my school. From the moment she arrived, she carried a deep mistrust – not just of me, but of the world beyond her own. Raised in the traditions of the Cheyenne, she had little reason to trust outsiders, and even less reason to believe that her abilities were a gift rather than a curse. Yet, despite her scepticism, she honoured her grandfather’s wishes and joined the New Mutants.
Her powers – manifesting the fears and desires of others – were unlike anything I had encountered before. They were not simply illusions; they were reflections of the subconscious, raw and unfiltered. In many ways, they made her more vulnerable than most. She could see the darkest corners of the human mind, and in doing so, she carried the weight of others’ pain alongside her own. It was a burden that shaped her, but never broke her.
Danielle’s journey was never easy. She clashed with authority, questioned my decisions, and often resisted the structure of the Institute. But she was never reckless – her defiance came from a place of deep conviction. She fought for her people, for her identity, and for the right to define herself on her own terms. When she became a Valkyrie, her path diverged from the X-Men, yet she never truly left. She remained a protector, a warrior, and a mentor to those who followed.
Even when she lost her mutant abilities, Danielle refused to be defined by what she had lost. She continued to fight, proving that her strength was never tied solely to her powers. When she regained them, she did so with a renewed sense of purpose, embracing both her mutant heritage and her Cheyenne roots.
Danielle Moonstar is more than a student, more than a mutant, and more than a warrior. She is a testament to resilience, to identity, and to the power of belief. She has challenged me, taught me, and reminded me that leadership is not about control, but about understanding. Whatever path she chooses next, I have no doubt that she will walk it with unwavering determination.”

FILM SERIES

FIRST APPEARANCE: The New Mutants
PLAYED BY: Blu Hunt
Danielle Moonstar is unaware of her mutant abilities. Her journey begins when her reservation is attacked by a mysterious force, leaving her as the sole survivor. She wakes up in a secluded hospital run by Dr. Cecilia Reyes, who claims to be helping young mutants control their powers. However, Dani soon realizes that she and the other patients – Rahne Sinclair, Illyana Rasputin, Sam Guthrie, and Roberto da Costa – are being monitored for sinister purposes.
Dani’s mutant ability, the power to manifest people’s deepest fears as illusions, becomes the driving force of the film’s horror elements. As her emotions spiral, her powers unintentionally unleash terrifying visions, including the monstrous Demon Bear, which is revealed to be connected to her past. With the help of her newfound friends, Dani ultimately confronts her fears, taming the Demon Bear and embracing her abilities.
X-MEN: EVOLUTION

FIRST APPEARANCE: Ghost Of A Chance
VOICED BY: Tabitha St. Germain
Danielle Moonstar is a young mutant with the ability to project dreams and nightmares into the minds of others. She is introduced as a mysterious figure who reaches out to Kitty Pryde through vivid, unsettling visions.
Danielle was presumed dead after disappearing two years prior during a cave-in near her home in Dark Hollow, New York. However, her mutant abilities allowed her to enter a hibernation-like state, preserving her body while her mind remained active. Over time, she unknowingly projected her thoughts outward, causing locals to believe the area was haunted.
When Kitty encounters Danielle during a dirt bike trip, the two quickly bond, but Danielle vanishes without a trace by morning. Kitty begins experiencing intense visions of Danielle trapped beneath the rockslide, leading her to question her own sanity as no one else remembers meeting her. Despite scepticism from the X-Men, Kitty follows her instincts and ultimately discovers Danielle alive, freeing her from her underground prison.
Danielle’s powers are unique in that they allow her to communicate telepathically through dreams, making her presence felt even when she is physically absent. Though Xavier offers her a place at the Institute, she chooses to return home, hoping to reintegrate into her community.
