But Warren, for all his outward composure, always wrestled with expectation – with the weight of what it meant to be born into greatness. Perhaps that is why his fall was so devastating. When his wings were stolen from him, when fate rendered him grounded, lost, vulnerable, he was forced to confront the truth that had long lingered beneath the surface. What was he without them? Apocalypse provided an answer – not salvation, not mercy, but a chance to be remade. Warren accepted, but it came at a terrible cost. In place of his lost feathers, he was given blades of metal, and in place of his nobility, he was gifted the title of Death.

I have long believed that redemption is not a singular act, nor is it an easy road to walk. Under Apocalypse’s control, Archangel becomes a ruthless enforcer, carrying out his master’s will with unwavering brutality. However, deep within, Warren struggles against the darkness forced upon him [Come the Apocalypse].

Eventually, with the help of the X-Men, Archangel breaks free from Apocalypse’s influence, though the scars – both physical and emotional – remain. He dedicates himself to hunting down Apocalypse, seeking revenge for the torment he endured. His obsession with destroying his former master leads him into conflict with the X-Men, who fear that his thirst for vengeance may consume him entirely [Obsession].
