At a meeting with world leaders, the Silver Surfer is feared and attacked. An energy weapon fires: the Silver Surfer soon lies encased in a blackened shell, drained of his cosmic essence by the weapon – the Enervator. Betrayed by those he sought to guide, he is carted away like a relic, his board confiscated, his voice silenced. Nova, sensing his peril, races to his aid, but is intercepted by Terrax, reborn and empowered anew by Galactus. Terrax, now wielding a more formidable cosmic axe, seeks vengeance and dominion, having deceived Galactus into believing he was wronged by Nova and the Surfer.
Nova battles Terrax across the skies, her bolts absorbed by his weapon, her strength tested against his relentless assault. Just as Terrax’s energy curtain threatens to consume her, the Fantastic Four intervene – Reed’s elastic reach pulling her to safety, Ben Grimm launching himself into the fray, and Sue Storm cloaking their efforts in invisibility. Together, they disarm Terrax, wresting the axe from his grip and forcing him into retreat.
Meanwhile, the Surfer remains imprisoned, studied like a specimen by Earth’s military. His thoughts drift through veils of pain and memory, questioning whether his re-creation of the universe has led to this cruelty. Yet within the black casing, remnants of the power cosmic stir. Nova and the Fantastic Four infiltrate the facility, overcoming guards and barriers with ingenuity and resolve. Nova, hearing the Surfer’s faint plea for sunlight, blasts open the roof, bathing him in solar fire.
Rejuvenated, the Surfer shatters his prison and obliterates the Enervator. He summons his board and lifts his allies to safety, but the reprieve is brief. From the heavens, Galactus descends – his hunger unabated, his herald Terrax triumphant. Cables of destruction rain down upon Earth, and the Surfer, now restored, prepares to confront the cosmic reckoning once more.
