
In Battle Lines, the increasing conflict between humans and mutants continues to risk global catastrophe, and takes one step closer to the future Xavier is desperate to prevent.
The war of ideals between Senator Kelly and Magneto intensifies, reflecting the broader struggle between humans and mutants. Magneto’s Acolytes break several mutants out of a secret MRD prison, revealing the lengths to which both sides will go to achieve their goals. Mystique, working for Magneto, uncovers a hidden agenda involving a powerful young mutant, adding layers of intrigue and moral complexity.
The episode explores themes of power, loyalty, and the ethical dilemmas faced by both the X-Men and their adversaries. As alliances shift and tensions rise, the story delves into the consequences of extreme measures taken in the name of security and freedom, highlighting the fragile balance between protection and oppression
Mystique, disguised as Colonel Moss, breaks into the MRD and secures the location of a young girl, a mutant, who is contained for her own safety.
Rogue interrupts Quicksilver and absorbs his memories by force, finally uncovering Magneto‘s plan. Despite some reassurance from Domino, Rogue flees, returning to the X-Men at the school. Unfortunately, after her recent defection to the Brotherhood, the team don’t trust her and Logan locks her away.
Around the States, at MRD facilities all over the country, Magneto’s Acolytes break mutant prisoners out of their cells and level the prisons. He travels to Senator Kelly and warns him to stand down, but Kelly is furious.
By the time the X-Men discover the strikes, the Brotherhood invade the school, preparing to take the X-Men out of the game before Magneto’s final plan. Wolverine frees Rogue and the X-Men manage to hold the Brotherhood back. Juggernaut has released the mutant girl, named Tildie Soames, who cannot control her powers and who’s abilities to physically conjure her nightmares are devastating the streets. Eventually, Rogue absorbs multiple powers and calms the girl down. Returning to the mansion, Xavier thanks Logan for reopening the school, at least as a sanctuary.
Kelly, not deterred by Magneto, gathers the world press and announces ‘Project: Sentinel” to the world and begins the path to the the dark future. At the same time, Magneto gathers the mutant population of Genosha and declares that there must be a resolution: the humans will come for them first. Magneto declares his intentions to strike at the human race…

The scientist guarding Tildie Soames at the start of the episode is X-Men ally Dr. Kavita Rao, seen as the creator of the Cure in X-Men: The Last Stand. She and Tildie first appeared in Astonishing X-Men #1.
Bobby attempts to ask Kitty out – but is interrupted by Rogue, who’s his love interest in the movie series!
More members of Magneto’s Acolytes appear in this episode: the triplet Kleinstock brothers who can merge into one being and teleporter Blink, wearing her Age of Apocalypse X-Men uniform.
Toad uses his tongue to effortlessly remove Cyclops’s visor, exactly as he does in the first X-Men movie.
Emma’s nose was broken by John Sublime in New X-Men #118. She did not take it well (and swiftly bought a new one).
Kelly speech at the end of the episode is similar to the one he delivers in the X-Men movie. Magneto’s is similar to one he gives to a mutant audience in X-Men: The Last Stand.
