And we come to the the end: the conclusion to the epic three-part finale of Wolverine and the X-Men.
This episode brings the tensions and conflicts that have been brewing throughout the series to a boiling point. The X-Men are in a desperate race against time to stop both Magneto’s campaign for mutant dominance and the catastrophic unleashing of the Phoenix Force. As they face battles on multiple fronts, the stakes have never been higher, and the fate of both mutants and humans hangs in the balance.
The episode masterfully weaves together action, emotional depth, and high-stakes drama. Jean Grey’s struggle with the Phoenix Force takes centre stage, as she battles to contain the immense power within her. The X-Men, meanwhile, must deal with Emma Frost’s betrayal and the Inner Circle’s nefarious plans. As alliances shift and trust is tested, the team must rely on their unity and resilience to overcome these seemingly insurmountable challenges. The themes of sacrifice, loyalty, and the fight for control are explored in depth, highlighting the complexities of power and its potential for both good and evil.
The conclusion of Foresight leaves us and the series on a heart-stopping cliff hanger that leaves fans on the edge of their seats. Just as the X-Men achieve a hard-fought victory, a new, ominous threat looms on the horizon. The series, unfortunately, was cancelled after this episode, leaving many of its storylines unresolved and fans yearning for more. Despite its abrupt end, the series remains a beloved part of the X-Men universe, celebrated for its rich storytelling, complex characters, and compelling themes.
Magneto arrives over America with his Sentinels and launches an attack on New York. While the X-Men work to control the Sentinels, Wolverine follows Emma and Scott. Meanwhile, in the future, Wolverine, Xavier, and the other X-Men are battling their way through the Sentinels to reach Master Mold. Marrow scours the Badlands for Polaris, seeking her help. Though Marrow and Polaris join the fray, even their combined efforts start to fall short against the relentless Sentinels.
Back in the present, the Cuckoos trick Jean into opening the final barrier holding back the Phoenix Force within her mind, while a powerless Emma and Scott look on helplessly. Emma pleads with her former Inner Circle teammates to release the Phoenix from the Cuckoos before it’s too late. The Circle reveals their grand scheme to Scott, who is devastated to learn they have been hunting Jean even before the explosion at the X-Mansion and that Emma had been working with them all along. The betrayal leaves Scott stunned.
The Cuckoos head into the city, targeting the Sentinels first and then the X-Men, with the Inner Circle close behind. Enraged, Scott cages Emma before he and Jean set off to stop the Phoenix Force. Shortly after they leave, Wolverine arrives and frees Emma on her promise to stop the Phoenix. Wanda, having followed her father to the mainland, finds Mystique at the Sentinel launch site. Learning of Magneto’s plan for war, she and Mystique decide to join forces with the X-Men to thwart him.
As the battle against Magneto’s Sentinels intensifies, the Cuckoos arrive, using the Phoenix force to easily dismantle the giant robots. Just as they are about to decimate the X-Men, Jean steps in to stop them. Emma abruptly intervenes, intercepting the Cuckoos before they can collide with Jean, ensnaring the Phoenix force within herself. However, she doesn’t have time to release the Phoenix force, and it consumes her. In a brilliant explosion, Emma is gone, her sacrifice averting worldwide devastation.
With Magneto’s forces defeated, he returns to Genosha, only to be banished by Wanda, who has had enough of his destructive plans. The X-Men return to the X-Mansion, eager to speak with Xavier in the future. He congratulates them on their heroic efforts, confirming that the future has indeed changed. However, he warns them of a new, demonic future where mutants, not Sentinels, dominate the skies. An age ruled by Apocalypse, with Mister Sinister and Cyclops at his side, looms on the horizon…

Master Mold does not resemble his Sentinel-like comic book look. Instead she seems based on Danger, the sentient version of the Danger Room who first appeared in Astonishing X-Men #9.
Underneath their robes, the Cuckoos are wearing Dark Phoenix costumes from the original comic book saga.
Emma was shot and shattered in her diamond form in New X-Men #139. She was, ironically, resurrected when Jean used the Phoenix Force to telekinetically connect her back together in New X-Men #141.
The new future shows Apocalypse emerging to clamouring masses, as in X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse. Season 2 was set to include the Age of Apocalypse storyline…
