PERSONAL NOTES OF CHARLES XAVIER
“There are few mutants I have known who have embodied resilience quite like Sean Cassidy. His sonic scream, a gift that allows him to soar through the skies, has always been a paradox – both a weapon and a song. But Sean himself has been a paradox, too.
His introduction to the world of mutants was not as a hero, but as an adversary. Coerced into villainy, he fought against the X-Men before realizing his true path. Before that, he had been an agent of Interpol, a man of law and order. That life was behind him when he first crossed my path, but I suspect it never truly left him.
His relationship with his brother, Black Tom Cassidy, has been one of the deepest wounds in his life. Tom stole his daughter, Theresa, raising her in his own image, severing the bond between father and child. The pain of that loss led Sean down a dark road, one that Theresa herself would later walk. Both succumbed to alcoholism, drowning their grief in the bottom of a bottle. And yet, both found their way back. They overcame their demons, though the scars remain.
As an X-Man, Sean was steadfast, a mentor and protector. His love for Moira MacTaggert was undeniable, and when she was taken from him, grief twisted him into someone I barely recognized. He was manipulated into forming X-Corp, believing it would be a beacon for mutant kind. Instead, it became a terrorist cell, a perversion of his ideals. I had to intervene, reshaping it into something worthy of his vision.
His death at the hands of Vulcan was a loss that weighed heavily on all of us. And yet, in this era of resurrection, he has returned. But return does not mean restoration. Sean is lost, adrift in a world that has moved forward without him. He spends his time with his former students from Generation X, guiding them as he once did. But I wonder – perhaps it is they who will guide him now.
Sean has always been a guardian of the next generation of X-Men. Perhaps, by standing among them once more, he will find his purpose again.”

FIRST APPEARANCE: The Phoenix Saga (Part 2): The Dark Shroud
VOICED BY: Phillip Williams (X-Men); David Errigo Jr. (X-Men ’97)
A new arrival on Muir Island, and the latest romantic partner of Moira MacTaggert, Sean Cassidy was introduced to Charles Xavier when he arrived to recuperate from his recent nightmares about the Shi’ar species and his encounter with his dark side. Charles was unusually hostile towards Sean, seemingly due to Moira’s former relationship with him, but Moira suspected that he was worse than she thought as it was out of character for her old friend [The Dark Shroud].
That night, Sean and Moira talked about their relationship and Moira affirmed their commitment with a kiss. They witnessed Charles being thrown out of his room and Sean used his mutant powers to swoop down and rescue the Professor from his fall. As the X-Men arrived to aid their mentor, Sean clashed with Wolverine immediately, but when Xavier had a vision of Lilandra reaching out to him, a shield in the castle she was kept in alerted Sean to her location: a stag fighting a dragon, the crest on the shield, belonged to his family. It hung above the fire in the ancestral family home, Cassidy Keep, off the coast of Ireland [Cry of the Banshee].
Banshee flew Wolverine there, guiding the rest of the X-Men to Cassidy Keep. There they were confronted by the Juggernaut and his associate Black Tom – Sean’s cousin. A battle ensued, during which Banshee was revealed to be immune to his cousin’s mutant energy blasts.
When the X-Men left for space with the Phoenix, Banshee stayed behind at Moira’s side [Child of Light]. He stayed on Muir Island and was present when Jean Grey returned to Earth [Dazzled]. He also aided in the recovery and rehabilitation of Kevin MacTaggert, Moira’s young mutant son who, as Proteus, struggled to control his reality-warping powers. Banshee became the boy’s mentor on Muir Island [Proteus (Part 1); (Part 2)].
Banshee was present on Muir Island when the Phalanx invaded the island. He sacrificed his freedom to hold back the creature. Moira couldn’t leave him, and was assimilated in the process [The Phalanx Covenant (Part 2)].
Two years later, with Charles Xavier in space, presumed dead, Banshee and Moira joined the Genoshan council, to build a better world for mutant kind through Xavier’s dream. When the Sentinel attacked Genosha and began it’s massacre, Banshee grabbed Marrow and sped to safety. Passing Rogue and Magneto, he shouted a warning, but he and Marrow were incinerated in the next Sentinel blast in mid-air [Remember It].
FILM SERIES

FIRST APPEARANCE: X-Men: First Class
OTHER APPEARANCES: Generation X
PLAYED BY: Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men: First Class); Jeremy Ratchford (Generation X)
A young mutant recruited by Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr, Sean Cassidy – known as Banshee – was introduced to the fledgling X-Men as they prepared to face the looming threat of Sebastian Shaw and the Hellfire Club. Initially uncertain of his abilities, Sean struggled to harness his sonic scream, which could propel him through the air. Under Xavier’s guidance, he trained relentlessly, eventually mastering his flight and proving himself a valuable asset to the team.
During the X-Men’s mission to prevent Shaw from escalating the Cuban Missile Crisis, Banshee took to the skies, using his echolocation to track enemy movements beneath the ocean’s surface. His reconnaissance allowed the team to anticipate an attack, but as the battle intensified, he found himself facing Riptide, whose devastating whirlwinds threatened to send him crashing into the sea. With quick thinking, Sean unleashed a powerful scream, disrupting Riptide’s assault and securing the X-Men’s advantage [X-Men: First Class].
Following the battle, Sean remained with Xavier at his newly established school, helping to train the next generation of mutants. Though he mourned the division between Xavier and Erik, he believed in Charles’ dream of peaceful coexistence. However, his time as an X-Man was cut short when the government, wary of mutant-kind, sought to dismantle Xavier’s school. In the ensuing conflict, Banshee was captured, his abilities suppressed by experimental technology and he was later killed [X-Men: Days of Future Past].
Another reality had it’s own version of Banshee. This version was older, and ran the Massachusetts Academy with Emma Frost. Together, they trained the next Generation of X-Men, determined for them to be ready for the future of their race [Generation X].
